the Sun Moon Lake Black Tea is a local specialty made from hand-plucked fresh leaves of
Taiwan Tea var. 8 which was breed by the Japanese in 1920.
Originally, it was Assam variety selected from large-leaf Jaipuri variety in India.
It was planted at tea gardens of altitude from 600 to 800 meters separately in Puli,
Shuili, and Yuchi as experimentation areas after being imported in Taiwan.
Experts found that climate at Sun Moon Lake is perfect for Assam variety to grow.
Mild average temperatures and stable humidity create Sun Moon Lake Black Tea which boasts rich,
mellow taste, strong aroma and sweet aftertaste. Sun Moon Lake Black Tea leaves are orthodox.
The tea color is clear and vivid red, and the taste is pungent with a hint of natural berry aroma and caramel smell.
